The Valley House Inn is a true piece of Huntsville’s history, with its roots stretching back over 150 years. This home has stood the test of time, and we are honored to preserve its charm and character while blending in modern comforts. Our goal is to create a memorable experience for every guest who walks through our doors, offering an authentic and comfortable stay while showcasing the rich history of the area.
Built in 1872, this home was once the residence of Lars Magnus Nelson, a Swedish immigrant and the first mayor of Huntsville. After his sudden death in an automobile accident, the home passed to Matilda Sprague. She was another Swedish immigrant, affectionately known as Aunt Tilly. She transformed the beautiful home into a beloved hotel and restaurant named Valley House which was famous for her homemade fried chicken, trout dinners and hot biscuits. Aunt Tilly entertained guests with tales of her journey across the plains to become one of Utah's early settlers. The successful business was passed down to her daughter and later her granddaughter before eventually being converted into a bed and breakfast.
